Do you ever get so caught up in wanting things you don't have? This is me recently. I would love to have some land where I can get back the basics, homestead, raise a few chickens and live a simple life. We live on a very small plot that is only .18 of an acre. Not a lot of space to do all that I would love to be able to do. I do have a garden and an herb bed but simply no space for chickens. And at this time due to financial problems we have no extra money to put aside for land.
But while I am often so caught up in wishing for these things I forgot to be thankful for what I do have. I have a wonderful husband who works hard to provide for us. I have the same job I have had for the last 15 yrs though I would love to be able to stay at home, I am thankful that I too can provide for my family. I have two children that are pretty well behaved and have stayed out of trouble in school(for the most part). I have a roof over my head and a place to sleep at night. I have a vehicle that runs and is paid for. I am able to put food on my family's table, some of it I proudly grew myself. And best of all I have a family who loves me for me. While I may not have all that I want I at least have all that I truly need. And while my life may not be as I wish it is as I have made it and so if I really think about it I have quite a bit to be thankful for!

Fruit Tree Spray
Got this info from my very knowledgeable friend Brooke. Thought it might help someone who has fruit trees.
Homemade Soap Spray for Fruit Trees
By spraying a little bit of soap mixed with a gallon or more of water onto fruit trees, gardeners add a slick residue to fruit and leaves that makes pest nests nearly impossible.
Garlic Spray
Some growers mix garlic with regular soap spray, which helps deter insects from even coming close to the tree. The garlic scent is used to ward off insects, but if they do venture to take a bite, they'll taste a nasty combination of soap and garlic.
Chili Spray
Adding chili powder to soap spray makes the solution even more potent and distasteful. This combination can possibly prevent larger animals from eating the fruit, too.

~ PIGBERT ~ my newest creation
~ PIGBERT ~ A Moonbeam Hollow orginal design.(formerly Purty Girl Primitives). This little piigie is 12 inches long and has been white washed and then stained for a one of a kind look. And once I hit 500 likes on my facebook page A Life Made from Scratch I will be giving him away to one lucky winner. So spread the word and help me hit 500.
So why am I not giving him away on my Moonbeam Hollow page? Well I just recently created that page and don't have too many likes there yet. The page is a work in progress but eventually I will move all my creation there under the new name and keep my other page for recipes, daily happenings and other things. But I am moving in baby steps with it right now. I do hope you'll take the time to stop over and check out both pages and help me reach my goal. And be sure to spread the word.

Ready for a ride?
and this is what I cam up with. These dolls were a bit of a challenge for me but I welcomed it and I think the dolls turned out pretty darn cute. I had never made biker chaps for a doll so I wasn't sure I could do it. I looked at many pictures and searched for patterns but couldn't find anything that would work for what I needed so I finally just drew up my own and went from there. It took 3 different drafts before I got it right but at least now I know what I am doing and I will be able to do it again if ever anyone wants another one. The clothes which you don't really see were made from clothes that were once worn by my Grandpa~whose picture is on my side bar! so they are sorta of memorial dolls also. I hadn't made dolls in a couple years but it's sorta like riding a bike, you never forget.
Today's dirt patch~
Tomorrows garden.
To some it may just look like a big ole patch of dirt but to me it looks like food on my table.

Yesterday while I was working the hubby aka Mr Chainsaw tilled our garden. I am so excited to get ready for planting. I haven't yet decided what all will go in this year. For sure peppers, onions and tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots and green beans but I want a few other things too.
He also tilled a small unused area of our yard for me to plant what ever I wish. I may plant more veggies or I may put in a few herbs. I am still a bit undecided yet. I have a bit to do to prepare it for planting yet but I can't wait to get my fingers in there and do some digging.
